Overlooking Lady Bird Lake and the Stars

Esteban and I met more than seven years ago, so our engagement was a long time coming! We worked together for several years before we actually started dating. In 2008, I accepted a job offer in central Texas and moved away. As childish as it sounds, I had a “crush” on him for years, but I never did anything about it because I was too shy, and did not think I was his type.

Fast-forward to the summer of 2010. Esteban and I had not seen each other in two years. We ran into each other at a mutual friend’s birthday party, and spent the evening catching up. At the end of the night we said goodnight and parted ways. At home, I could not stop thinking about the wonderful night we spent, so I did the unthinkable. I sent him a text message confessing how much I liked him throughout the years. To my surprise, he responded that he had felt the same way all of those years. We went on our first date on June 2, 2010.

Esteban and I planned a trip to Austin to celebrate his 29th birthday on November 2011. By then, I was back home, in Houston, and living with him. I lived in Austin while we dated the first year, so the city holds a special meaning for us. He proposed on November 10, 2011, after spending the entire day visiting our favorite Austin spots like Mount Bonnell, Lady Bird Lake, and South Congress. That night, we were in our hotel room, relaxing after an eventful day. Esteban began telling me all the things he loved about me. In our room, overlooking Lady Bird Lake and the stars, Esteban got down on one knee. He asked me if I would marry him, I said yes, and bawled like a baby. Even though it was just us two, it was perfect. I had previously mentioned to him that I did not want to be proposed to in a public place. When the day came, I wanted it to be just about the two of us. Esteban and I are getting married on April 13, 2013. We are looking forward to uniting our lives under God, and beginning a family. Wish us luck!
