He Cooked the Same Meal He Made the First Time He Had Me Over for Dinner

About two and half years after we started dating, Jimmy and I began talking about marriage. We even spent Valentine's shopping for rings together. A month or so later, Jimmy and I were headed to China for vacation. Part of me suspected that he was going to take the chance to propose in Beijing at the Great Wall or some other beautiful landmark. The original plan was to do something like this, but the timing was off and Jimmy chose not to propose with a "fake ring." A month and a half later, Jimmy had me over to his apartment for dinner the night before he was headed out of town for a work trip. I didn't make the connection until later, but he cooked the same meal he made the first time he had me over for dinner-- chicken saltimbocca. We had a lovely dinner with great conversation about how happy we were together. Jimmy shared that a few months after we had met, he told his mom that he thought I was the ONE. Even though we had been dating seriously for two and a half years, I had never heard this tidbit and thought it was so sweet. If I remember right, the comment brought happy tears to my eyes. The thought of a proposal or marriage didn't even cross my mind-- in that moment, I just felt so loved and special. As I was expressing this to him, he walked away from the table to his room.I thought it was a little weird since I was in the middle of saying something very important. Before I had a chance to say anything, he got on one knee and said something along the lines of "Will you spend the rest of your life with me?" I immediately started crying and gave him a big hug and kiss. I didn't even look at the ring because I was so caught up in the moment! Proposing over a home cooked meal was such a perfect way to signify the beginning of our life together. To this day, we take great joy in cooking AND eating delicious meals together!
